Ray’s Midbell Music of Sioux City, Iowa, was the first small business selected for Rhett & Link’s I Love Local Commercials series. Rhett & Link is an Internet comedy duo that parodies small business commercials using actual small business.
MicroBuilt, a risk-management information company for small and medium-sized businesses, sponsored the project which aims to celebrate small businesses and the “art” of local commercials.
The viral hit has also attracted local media attention to Ray’s Midbell Music. The Sioux City Journal ran a front page story on the YouTube hit, which garnered greater local awareness for the store.
“It’s hard to put a price on that kind of exposure,” said Ray Guntren, owner of Ray’s Midbell Music. “The intent is to get noticed.”
As of Nov. 17, the commercial has received 312,720 views on YouTube.
