Kawai to Phase out Lowrey

Kawai has announced plans to gradually phase out its Lowrey home organ division, which was acquired in 1988. In a statement, Kawai noted that the decision was based primarily on the company's "desire to focus research and development efforts on its growing line of digital piano and hybrid instruments."

"This refocusing plan is a long-term strategic initiative designed to strengthen and expand Kawai's range of product offerings that have received over 50 major international awards for excellence," the statement said.

Normal Lowrey sales and dealer support operations will continue as long as finished goods remain in inventory. Based on planned production and past sales trends, inventory could last well into 2019. Kawai's technical service department will provide service and technical support for Lowrey organs and digital pianos well into the future, according to company executives.
