Mike Clem

Sweetwater has announced the promotion of Mike Clem to president. In this new role, Clem will work alongside Sweetwater CEO John Hopkins to lead the company.

Clem has been with Sweetwater for 20 years. During that time, he has developed partnerships with each company division to identify and accelerate growth opportunities. Previously, Clem acted as Sweetwater’s chief growth officer, where he oversaw and implemented strategic growth plans in all areas of the business.

“Mike’s vision, leadership, and character have had an invaluable influence on the company since he first joined the team,” Hopkins said. “He is smart, passionate, optimistic, and strategic, and has held several key roles at Sweetwater that have made him the perfect fit for this new position.”

Clem joined Sweetwater in 2003 when the company saw $57 million in sales. Since then, he has led growth in e-commerce and digital marketing efforts and has been instrumental in helping Sweetwater reach over $1.5 billion in revenue annually.

“I could not be more grateful to accept the position of president for the company that I have called home for the past two decades,” Clem said. “I look forward to continuing to lead the vision and growth as we maintain Sweetwater’s reputation for ‘over-the-top’ customer service.”

Clem is a graduate of Purdue University and his background in e-commerce began in the early days of the internet, including work with many notable retail brands. Clem is also a lifelong musician and a native Fort Wayne, Indiana, where Sweetwater is headquartered.

“Mike has played an integral part in Sweetwater’s success,” said Chuck Surack, Sweetwater’s founder and chairman of the board. “He has a unique ability to combine digital innovation with our guiding principles of doing the right thing and building relationships with our customers. I’m excited to expand his leadership as we continue to help make people’s musical dreams come true.”
