Steve’s Music Inventory to Be Auctioned Tomorrow

By Frank Alkyer

“Due to several factors, including the post-COVID world and the changing economy, we made the difficult decision to close and restructure the business,” Steve’s Music announced on its website.

Following the liquidation of Steve’s Music, one of Canada’s largest music gear retailers, Encanteurs Continental/Continental Auctioneers will be auctioning off more than 2,000 lots of musical products inventory.

The two-day public online auction will take place July 22–23 and will feature musical instruments, professional audio equipment, recording gear, DJ equipment, amplifiers, keyboards, percussion, furniture, fixtures and music accessories.

Shortly after celebrating 60 years in business, the family-owned chain closed four of its five stores in February in an effort to reorganize the business model. “It’s too hard to maintain so many arms all over the place and try to concentrate and reorganize, to be more efficient and modern,” said Steve Kirman, who took over the operation from his father, who founded the business.

Earlier this month, Steve’s announced the closing of its last location in downtown Montreal on Rue Sainte-Catherine E.

“Unfortunately, due to several factors, including the post-COVID world and the changing economy, we made the difficult decision to close and restructure the business,” the company announced on its website.

The final auction is open to the public. Public inspection is today, July 21, from 8 a.m.–4 p.m. The auction will take place online at bid.bidcontinental.com. Registration is free and open to the public.

According to a press release, “Highlights include equipment from many of the industry’s most sought-after brands, including Fender, Gibson, Martin, Taylor, PRS, Gretsch, Ibanez, Marshall, Vox, Orange, Roland, Korg, Moog, Pioneer DJ, Universal Audio, Focusrite, Shure, Neumann, Sennheiser, JBL, QSC, Zildjian, Sabian, Pearl, Tama, Ludwig and many more.”

“Auctions of this caliber don’t happen often,” said Michael Akkibrityan, co-owner of Encanteurs Continental. “Whether you’re a musician, recording studio, school, church, collector, reseller or simply looking for exceptional value, this auction represents a unique opportunity to purchase quality equipment from one of Canada’s most recognized names in music.” MI
