Hal Leonard’s CEO Transitions to Executive Board Member Role

Larry Morton

After 32 years at the company, including 23 years as president, COO and CEO, Larry Morton is now transitioning to the newly-created position of executive board member of Hal Leonard. Working closely with his fellow shareholders at Seidler Equity Partners, Morton will continue to be active in the company by focusing on growth opportunities, managing various projects, maintaining strategic partner relationships and assisting the senior leadership team in the overall management of the business.

“I am very excited about the opportunity to work ‘on’ the business after so many years of working ‘in’ the business,” Morton said in a statement.

Hal Leonard has engaged a national search firm to assist in finding the next CEO of the company.

“Last year, Hal Leonard celebrated its 75th year in business,” Morton continued. “I knew the founders — Harold, Ev and Roger — and I was taught and mentored by the legendary music [business] titan, Keith Mardak. I’m mindful that I’m only the third CEO of Hal Leonard over those 75 years. Along with that honor, however, I recognize that being a good steward is knowing when it’s time to pass the baton and make a thoughtful, purposeful and successful hand-off to the next leader of our company. As my dad always said, you have to ‘leave more wood on the pile.’”
