Lefty Guitar Shop Celebrates 30

Southpaw Guitars, a family-run shop in Houston, will celebrate its 30th anniversary on July 11. The shop stocks nearly 1,000 acoustic, electric and bass guitars from brands, such as Gibson, Fender, Heritage, Jackson, Jerry Jones, Martin, Schecter, Taylor, Takamine, Hofner, Alvarez and EVH, for left-handed players.

Southpaw Guitars claims it has sold more than 100,000 guitars to left-handed players nationally and worldwide. Customers include beginners, gigging amateurs and touring pros.

“We are celebrating 30 years selling lefty guitars, and we are doing great,” said owner Jim Duncan, a left-handed player who founded the shop with Bill Townsend in 1980. “Thanks to thousands of loyal customers, we have grown to become one of the top niche marketers in the industry, for which we are sincerely grateful and proud.”

The company Web site will feature special deals and promotions throughout July in honor of the company milestone.
